Travel back in time to the middle ages with this trip to Monastery of Sant Benet de Bages, located in the picturesque countryside of Bages, in Catalonia. This is an unforgettable day out during your trip to Barcelona.
Sant Benet Monastery Trip
We will meet up at 9:30 am in the center of Barcelona to climb aboard the bus which will take us northeast from the city. After traveling for around an hour, we will arrive in the beautiful region of Bages and encounter the Monastery of Sant Benet.
We will take a guided tour inside the magnificent religious monument, lasting around two hours. You will hear all about the history of the Benedictine monastery, which was built in the year 950 and was all but abandoned following the Black Death until its restoration in the 20th century. You learn about how the Catalans Ramón Casas and Josep Puig i Cadafalch restored the building when you encounter the audiovisual display.
As you explore the different rooms and halls of the monastery, including the Romanesque style cloister and the church, you will experience authentic sounds, smells and images of the past. This virtual simulation helps you get an idea of what life was like here during the Middle Ages.
After having immersed ourselves in more than a thousand years of history of this impressive building, we will then head to La Fonda restaurant. There, you will enjoy a traditional Catalan meal from a selection of local dishes on the menu.
Rested and reenergized, we will return to the bus and make our way back to Barcelona, arriving in the city at around 6 pm.
