Balcones de El Calafate Ziplining or Hiking Tour
Description
We'll pick you up at your El Calafate hotel and take you on an off-roading adventure through the Huyliche range in southern Patagonia at the agreed-upon time. Along the way, you'll have the opportunity to witness the Andes Mountains, the Patagonian Continental Ice Field, the steppe, and the stunning Argentino Lake.
Then, we'll proceed on our route towards Cerro Huyliche, where we'll make a stop to take in the stunning landscapes offered by the rock formations of the Balcones de El Calafate. On clear days, you'll have a clear view of the Andes mountain range, stretching all the way to Cerro Fitz Roy and the Perito Moreno Glacier. Additionally, you can enjoy breathtaking views of Lake Argentino, and if conditions are favorable, catch a glimpse of the great condor flying.
Following this, you'll have the choice to take a thrilling zipline ride or embark on a hiking adventure, depending on your preference. Are you prepared to experience an adrenaline rush in the heart of Argentine Patagonia?
After your chosen activity, we'll regroup and head to Estancia Huyliche. There, you'll have the opportunity to recharge with a delightful lunch or snack, depending on the timing of the excursion.
For lunch, you can expect a meat empanada, lamb or beef casserole, chocolate mousse, and your choice of water, juice, or a glass of Malbec Santa Julia red wine. The afternoon snack includes coffee, tea, juice, homemade cake, and scones.
After refueling, we'll return in our off-roading vehicle to El Calafate. You can expect to arrive back at your hotel approximately 4 hours after the initial pickup.
Tickets
When reserving your tickets, you may choose between the following two options:
Zipline
In this medium-difficulty activity, we'll have a two-hour adventure on a circuit with four ziplines covering 2920 meters (9580 feet) above the Balcones de El Calafate.
Hiking
In this activity, we'll take an easy-level hiking route lasting 1.5 hours. Along the way, we'll explore the stone labyrinths of the Balcones de El Calafate, where you may even come across various fossil remains.
Schedules
Depending on the activity you choose, you should keep the following times in mind, depending on the season:
- Ziplining at 11 am: this schedule applies to the months of April, May, June, July, August and September
- Ziplining at 10 am or 6 pm: this schedule applies to the months of October, November, December, January, February and March
- Hiking at 10 am: this operates in the months of November, December, January, February and March
Changes to the itinerary
During the winter season (between the months of April and September), when part of the 4x4 route becomes inaccessible due to the large amount of accumulated snow (or mud during the thawing season), we'll only go up to 800 meters (2,624 feet) until we reach the "East" Balcony.
For the ziplines, we'll be able to do the third and fourth lines during the winter season. However, this activity is subject to ground conditions: if there is mud or ice, it'll be closed for safety reasons.
