Caving in Valporquero + Canyoning
With this activity, you'll go potholing in the Valporquero cave and enjoy an adrenaline-filled experience canyoning in the La Folfoguera ravine - two unique places in the province of León!
Caving in Valporquero + Canyoning
When booking you can choose one of the following options, which differ in terms of their level of difficulty:
- Valporquero Cave and La Folfoguera Ravine: level 1.
- Valporquero, sima de las Perlas and La Folfoguera: level 2.
In both cases, the meeting point with the monitor will be the El Pescador restaurant. From this establishment, located in the town of Felmín, in Leon, you'll head to the different natural areas. These trips must be made in your own car, following the monitor's vehicle.
Valporquero Cave and La Folfoguera Ravine (3-4 hours)
After getting kitted out in out wesuits, boots, gloves, harnesses, helmets with torch and the rest of the potholing equipment, we'll head into the Valporquero cave. This cave, which has over 3,000 metres of underground galleries and 60-metre-high cavities, is one of the most outstanding caves in the province of León.
Inside the cave, we'll make our way through siphons, narrow passages, waterfalls, natural slides, and other elements. Not only that, but we'll teach you to distinguish between stalactites, stalagmites, castings, micro lakes and other natural formations present in this type of special cave.
After the potholing activity in Valporquero cave, we'll head to La Folfoguera ravine, a unique canyon located in Los Argüellos! In this area of the province of León, declared a Biosphere Reserve, we'll go canyoning next to some spectacular 25-metre waterfalls. In addition, we'll abseil surrounded by lush landscapes, crystalline waters and ancient beech trees.
To top it all off, we'll cross the Torío River on a zip line to admire the gorges of Vegacervera from high up above!
Valporquero, Sima de las Perlas and La Folfoguera (4-5 hours)
As in the previous option, we'll first go potholing in the Valporquero cave. In addition, we'll explore La Covona to see a natural underground river.
Next, we'll go to the Pearl Chasm. This is an alternative entrance to Valporquero cave, only suitable for more experienced adventurers. In this area we'll do different rappels between 18 and 25 metres high, a real adrenaline rush! We'll also visit the Lago de las Perlas, an underground lagoon of pure, crystalline waters. We'll continue exploring the chasm next to the Clock Pass: a small opening of just 30 centimetres.
After a series of rappels between 25 and 50 metres, we'll reach the course of the underground river, where we'll conclude our visit to the Pearl Pit. From there we'll go to Los Argüellos to go canyoning in La Folfoguera.
We'll finish by soaring over the Torío River on a zip line.
