On this guided tour you'll discover Kiev's main places of interest and explore two of its most emblematic monuments, the Cave Monastery and the Park of Eternal Glory.
Kiev and the Cave Monastery Guided Tour
After meeting in the centre of Kiev at 10 am, you'll begin your tour of the Ukrainian capital's main attractions.
We'll visit the Cave Monastery, or Kiev Pechersk Lavra. This majestic architectural complex, famous for its gilded domes, was constructed in the 11th century and is composed of a number of buildings of great importance to the Orthodox Church. You'll visit the Gate Church of the Trinity, the Dormition Cathedral (reconstructed in the 1990s after being destroyed in World War II), the Refectory Church and the different galleries displaying religious art.
You'll then enter the caves which gave their name to the monastery. This network of corridors and rooms excavated from the rock housed the first monks who lived in the area in the 11th century. In these cave chambers, you can observe resting places and relics of Saints.
Before leaving the Kiev Cave Monastery, you'll visit the Microminiatures Museum, where you can admire such miniscule marvels as the smallest book in the world, at only 0.6 mm in size!
The final stop on the tour will be the Park of Eternal Glory, where you'll find the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a monument honouring fallen World War II soldiers. You'll also see the Memorial to Holodomor Victims in commemoration of vistims of the famines in the Ukraine, getting a sense for Kiev's recent history.
The tour finishes at the Statue of the Motherland around 2 pm.
We recommend bringing cash on the day of the tour to purchase tickets for public transport, and to enter into the various monuments for you and your guide.
