When the night falls in Kyoto, the magic starts to shine. With this night tour, you will explore the streets of the traditional Geisha neighborhood of Gion, by the light of its paper lanterns.
Kyoto Night Tour
We will meet up at the entrance to Gion Corner theatre, in the heart of one of the most famous geisha districts in all of Japan.
From here, we will travel back in time to the tranquil little cobbled streets of Higashiyama, among which we will run into the Yasui Konpira Gu shrine and the celebrated Yasaka pagoda. In this beautiful area, you will discover the tea houses, geisha houses, shops selling sweets, textiles, makeup, and traditional Japanese sun shades.
We will also head northwards to the modern bars and clubs, which strike a contrast with the ancient decoration of this district. Then we cross over the Kamo River and stroll down Pontocho street where you will discover many restaurants. All these wonderful buildings are decorated with colorful traditional lanterns.
Shopping lovers and fans of comics will really enjoy a walk down Teramachi street which is full of souvenir and comic shops. We end the tour at the Nishiki market encountering a ‘tachinomiya’ bar where you can try some tasty Japanese drinks and snacks.
