Set off to Portugal from Madrid and discover the hilly Lisbon and its top attractions, before heading to Alcobaça, Batalha and the religious center Fátima during a 5-day and 4-night trip.
Day 1 (Wednesday): Madrid – Trujillo – Lisbon
Greet your guide in front of the Royal Palace of Madrid at 8:30am. Board a comfortable and air-conditioned coach and head west to the autonomous community of Extremadura. The first stop is Trujillo, cradle of “New World” conquerors. Marvel at the impressive city walls erected by the Moors that once enclosed the town, explore its Plaza Mayor flanked by churches, palaces and manor houses.
Cross the border and continue the journey through the Alentejo region crossing historic sites such as Elvas, Estremoz and Setúbal. Cross the Tagus River on the famous 25 de Abril Bridge to Lisbon. Upon arrival, you’ll have time to visit the city and enjoy a dramatic Fado performance, a typical music genre originally from Lisbon.
Day 2 (Thursday): Lisbon
On the second day, you’ll explore Lisbon, one of the oldest cities in Europe. In the morning, take a sightseeing tour of the city accompanied by your guide. You’ll visit the old town’s most important attractions, including Belém Tower, the Jerónimos Monastery, Ancient Car Museum, Monument of the Discoveries, Praça Marqués de Pombal and Avenida da Liberdade. In the afternoon, you’ll have time to explore Alfama, a charming neighborhood with a maze of narrow streets, considered the birthplace of Fado.
Day 3 (Friday): Lisbon – Óbidos – Alcobaça – Nazaré – Batalha – Fátima
Climb on the coach and enjoy the landscape while your driver sets off to the seaside city of Óbidos, a picturesque medieval walled town with pretty white houses. Next, you’ll stop at Alcobaça and enjoy a tour of its squares and gardens before heading to Mosteiro de Santa Maria de Alcobaça, one of the first Gothic buildings in Portugal.
Next, head to Nazaré, a cliff-side fishing village with stunning views over the Atlantic Ocean. Then, proceed to the Batalha Monastery, a majestic fourteenth century building and a great example of Gothic and Manueline style. After your guided tour, you’ll head to Fátima, where you’ll spend the night.
Day 4 (Saturday): Fátima – Lisbon
You’ll have the whole day to explore one of the most important religious sites in the world at your own pace. We recommend you visit its legendary Sanctuary and admire the image of the Virgin of Fátima in the Chapel of the Apparitions. This is where the three children were visited by Mary.
In the evening, you’ll head to Ribatejo, a traditional province in Portugal before driving back to Lisbon.
Day 5 (Sunday): Lisbon – Cáceres – Madrid
On the last day, you’ll travel back to Madrid, stopping on the way in the historically rich Cáceres, packed with Renaissance palaces, Islamic architecture still present in the city walls and medieval fortress-houses, reason why it is a UNESCO World Heritage-listed.
Discover the old town, its medieval neighborhood and the Plaza Mayor. The tour will finish in Madrid at approximately 7:30pm.
