Embark on the Bernina Express to pass through one of the world's most fascinating rail journeys. It passes through the Bernina pass, crosses the Swiss Alps and arrives eventually in St. Moritz, "The Top of the World."
Swiss Alps Tour
Leaving Milan behind at 7:15 am, we head north, crossing the lake district and arriving in Tirano, one of the last Italian towns before Switzerland.
In Tirano you will have two hours of free time to explore the historic centre, sample the local cuisine and have a coffee. The Bernina Express leaves the town past midday.
The cherry on the cake is the Bernina Express, a train that runs along one of the most spectacular rail routes in the world. The route to St. Moritz lasts two and a half hours, passing along the Brusio spiral viaduct, and cutting through the Bernina pass, as well as crossing places such as Engadina, one of the most famous valleys in the area.
Once in St. Moritz, known as "The Top of the World", you will have an hour of free time to explore the town and buy some souvenirs.
To enjoy the alps from another point of view, we will return to Milan by road, arriving back in the city at 7:30 pm.
- The journey takes place in a regional train with classic windows (not panoramic), which can be lowered to take better pictures of the scenery during the journey.
- The order of the visit may change depending on train availability. In this case, we'll visit St. Moritz first, where you'll have time to eat before heading to Bernina on the way to Tirano.
- Children under 4 can travel free as long as they travel on the lap of their parents.
European citizens of the Schengen Zone (Switzerland, Iceland, Norway, Lichenstein and all the countries in the European Union except the United Kingdom, Ireland, Romania, Bulgaria, Cyprus and Croatia) only need their national identity document to enter Switzerland. Citizens of other countries will have to check with their respective Swiss consulates to see what documentation will be needed.
