Victor Hugo, Voltaire, Alexandre Dumas and other distinguished French citizens are laid to rest in the Pantheon in Paris. Discover this fascinating monumental mausoleum, located in the heart of the Latin Quarter.
Paris Pantheon: what to expect?
In the heart of the bohemian Latin Quarter, one of the prettiest neighbourhoods in the French capital, perched upon the Montagne Sainte-Geneviève, a hill overlooking the left bank of the Seine, sits the Pantheon of Paris. This elegant Neoclassical monument, topped by a grand dome which rivals that of St Peter's Basilica in Vatican City and St Paul's in London, is the final resting place of some of France's most distinguished historical citizens.
Your skip the line ticket to the monument, whose architecture was inspired by the ancient Pantheon in Rome, gives you access to its fascinating interior. Inside, you'll find a stunning collection of frescoes depicting religious and historical scenes including the Death of St Genevieve, to whom the monument was dedicated when it previously served as a church, and Joan of Arc at Orléans.
The Pantheon is also home to a number of sculptural masterpieces, amongst which the representation of the National Convention and the monuments to Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Diderot are particular highlights.
As a mausoleum, the Pantheon's crypt is naturally one of the main attractions of the monument. Visit the burial places of important French figures such as Voltaire, Victor Hugo, Émile Zola, Marie Curie and Louis Braille, amongst many others.
The Paris Pantheon is open daily at the following times:
- 2 January to 31 March: from 10 am to 6 pm.
- 1 April to 30 September: from 10 am to 6:30 pm.
- 1 October to 31 December: from 10 am to 6 pm.
