When you walk through the doors of this temple, you'll feel like you've stepped back in time to the 13th century. Considered as one of the best examples of Gothic architecture in the world, this building will enable you to relive the days of Louis VI ​of France. Did you know that he ordered this incredible church to be built to house his Passion of Relics? It even housed Christ's Crown of Thorns – one of the most important relics in medieval Christendom- which was then moved to the nearby Notre-Dame Cathedral.

You'll walk through the chapel and admire the combination of red and blue columns, and don't forget to look up to appreciate the beautiful ceiling that stands 20 metres overhead. Of course, the stained glass windows are one of the most famous features;  fifteen huge mid-13th-century windows fill the nave and apse, and a large rose window sits proudly in the western wall. This is a must-see in Paris, and you'll always spot something new every time you visit.

Sainte-Chapelle Opening Times

The opening times vary depending on the season:

• From 2nd January to 31st March: open every day from 9 am to 5 pm.
• From 1st April to 30th September: open every day from 9 am to 7 pm.
• From 1st October to 31st December: open every day from 9 am to 5 pm.

Please note: last entry is 30 minutes before closing time. We recommend visiting Sainte-Chapelle in the morning, when there are fewer tourists.

Skip the Line Ticket

With this ticket, you won't have to queue at the ticket office at the Sainte-Chapelle, although you will have to queue to get into the chapel itself.

Combined Visit with the Conciergerie

The Sainte-Chapelle is located next to the Conciergerie, a Gothic palace turned prison during the French Revolution. We recommend purchasing a combined ticket, which costs 15 euros, saving you 4 euros, as the ticket to the Conciergerie costs 9 euros and the ticket to the Sainte-Chapelle costs 10 euros.
