Do you want to explore the surroundings of Takayama? On this tour we'll get in touch with Japanese rural life by visiting the historic villages of Shirakawago and enjoying the hot springs of Hirayu Onsen.
Shirakawago, Hirayu Onsen and Hirayu Falls Day Trip
At the scheduled time, we'll meet at Takayama Central Station and take public transport to Shirakawago. The journey will take approximately 50 minutes.
Once we arrive at our destination we'll start walking through one of the villages to learn about its history. Did you know that this place is protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site? Houses with triangular roofs made of straw, ponds, rice fields... it's magical!
In addition, we'll enter the home of the Wada family, where we'll discover what a typical Japanese home looks like. We'll get to see different utensils related to sericulture, all while our guide tells us all about them!
Afterwards, we'll return to the bus and head to Hirayu Onsen, the thermal village in the Japanese Alps. After an hour and a half's journey, we'll be able to enjoy a dip in the thermal pools. Here, soaking in these pools is part of a purification ritual.
With our bodies relaxed, we'll take a walk to discover another of the charms of the area: the Hirayu Waterfalls. During the trek, we'll be surrounded by the tranquility of nature and its incredible beauty.
At the end of the trip, we'll head back to Takayama, where we'll arrive after an eight-hour excursion.
