Astorga Free Walking Tour
Tour Details
We'll meet at the indicated time in Plaza Eduardo de Castro, in front of the Palace of Gaudí, to start our free walking tour of Astorga. Ready to explore a different side of the province of León? Let's go!
As we walk along the historic streets, we'll learn about what inspired Gaudí to design this palace and much more. Just a few meters away, we'll also be able to admire the baroque façade of the Santa María Cathedral, which is an unmissable stop for pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago route.
From here, we'll head to Plaza Santocildes, a square rich in history, before continuing to Plaza España, the heart of the city. Here, we’ll uncover the symbolism hidden within the Town Hall’s façade—and if we’re lucky with our timing, we might hear the iconic bells of Juan Zancuda and Colasa.
Next up, we'll make our way along the former city walls, leading us to the Shrine of Fátima, an incredible example of Roman-era architecture in the city. Then, we'll head to the Sinagoga Garden, a serene space along the old city wall, perfect for taking a quiet moment to soak in Astorga’s charm.
Our route then leads us to one of the best-preserved Roman ruins in the city. We’ll marvel at the remarkable Domus mosaic of the bear and the birds, once part of a grand home belonging to a powerful Roman family.
Finally, we'll circle back to Plaza España, where we'll bring our experience to an end 1 hour and 15 minutes later.
