Follow in the footsteps of the famous Dutch artist and Saint-Rémy-de-Provence with this Provence Van Gogh Tour. A unique route for lovers of expressionism!
Provence Van Gogh Tour
'I dream my painting and paint my dream'. To discover more about Van Gogh's time in Provence, we'll meet at 9:00 am at 41 Cours Jean Jaurès, Avignon. From here, we'll head to Arles, the city where the artist lived from 1888 onwards.
When we arrive, we'll take a walking tour of its historic centre and see the symbolic Café Van Gogh, its entrance was painted by the artist in his famous post-impressionist work Coffee Terrace in the evening. We'll also take a walk along the Arenes de Arles: one of the best preserved Roman amphitheatres in the south of France. Then, you'll have 30 minutes of free time. On Saturdays, you can visit the popular weekly market in Arles.
The tour will continue to Les Baux-de-Provence, where we'll make a brief stop to photograph this Provencal village, which was also portrayed by Van Gogh on several occasions. On the outskirts, you'll find the Carrières de Lumiéres, a digital arts centre where you'll attend a sound and light show about Salvador Dalí´s paintings. Did you know that he was inspired by the works of Van Gogh?
The last stop will be in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, where Van Gogh painted his famous work of art 'The Starry Night'. In this village, if you wish, you'll have time to visit the recreation of Van Gogh's old room.
The tour will end returning to Avignon, arriving back at the starting point at 2 pm.
