To understand the history of Minas Gerais, a visit to São João del Rei and Tiradentes is a must. We'll learn about the past of both areas on this day trip from Belo Horizonte.
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Belo Horizonte, the capital of the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, and from there we'll drive to the south of the city.
We'll make a short stop at a local restaurant, where you can have breakfast, and continue the tour to São João del Rei. Can you guess why it's called that? We'll discover the most outstanding monuments of this town while walking through the old town, where we'll find the four main temples of the city: the churches of Pilar, Nossa Senhora da Conceição, Carmo and São Francisco de Assis.
After this guided tour of São João del Rei, you'll have an hour free for lunch in the historic centre. After lunch, we'll depart for the nearby town of Tiradentes, one of the main historical cities of the state of Minas Gerais.
Did you know that Tiradentes is named after a republican leader? We'll learn about this and other curiosities of the city as we stroll through its streets. We'll also see the fountain of São José, the church of Santo Antônio and the Casa do Padre Toledo, where a popular local figure once lived.
At the end of the guided tour of Tiradentes, we'll return to your hotel in Belo Horizonte, where we'll arrive after a total of 14 hours.
This tour includes pickup from hotels in the central area, Savassi and Lourdes. If you're staying in other areas of the city, we'll contact you to let you know the specific meeting point for pickup.
