Maestrazgo Mining Park & Culla Day Trip
We'll meet at 8:55 am next to the Benicassim Tourist Office. From here, we'll head to the Maestrazgo Mining Park by minibus. This extraordinary place has a network of underground galleries located at a depth of 2,600 feet (800 metres) and also offers spectacular views of the Upper Maestrazgo region.
For 2 hours, we'll tour the Victoria and Esperanza mines, two underground gems steeped in history. We'll board the train that'll take us to the Victoria mine and, once at the entrance, we'll put on our safety helmets and start exploring these underground labyrinths.
How did miners work hundreds of years ago? What tools did they use? What minerals did they extract? We'll answer all these questions with the help of an expert guide and informative videos. In addition, you'll see the original mining carts, various devices used at the time and the geological formations of the galleries up close.
We'll then return to the train and head to the Esperanza mine, where we'll admire its natural treasures and learn about the work of the miners.
Afterwards, we'll head to Culla to follow the Temple Route, which combines nature and history. As we walk through the town's old quarter, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest, we'll discuss the many cultures that have left their mark on its cobbled streets. We'll also pass by the 11th-century castle, the Knight Commander's granary, and the old hospital.
At the end of our tour, we'll return to Benicassim where we should arrive at 1:40 pm.
