Buda Hill: Fisherman’s Bastion & Matthias Church Tour
Buda Tour Details
Welcome to Buda Hill! We’ll begin discovering this area of the Hungarian capital at Szentháromság tér, Holy Trinity Square.
After a brief introduction, we’ll start the tour by visiting the interior of Matthias Church, the most famous Catholic church in Budapest. As we walk through its central nave and admire its beautiful decoration, we’ll learn about its medieval origins and discuss different historical events in which this church played a leading role, such as royal coronations and the Ottoman occupation.
At the end of the guided visit to this Neo-Gothic church, we’ll continue our tour of Buda Hill at Fisherman’s Bastion. From this iconic viewpoint, we’ll enjoy beautiful views of the Danube River, the Hungarian Parliament, and the Pest district. Get your camera ready to capture the panoramic scenery!
After admiring these views, we’ll continue exploring the hill toward Buda Castle. This emblematic monument, also known as the Royal Palace of Hungary, currently houses 3 important museums: the Széchenyi Library, the Hungarian National Gallery, and the Budapest History Museum.
We’ll admire the exterior of the castle while discussing different stories related to the kings of Hungary and the wars that completely transformed the appearance of Buda Hill.
Finally, after a 2.5-hour route, we’ll conclude the tour in front of the entrance to the Hungarian National Gallery.
