Olive Grove & Oil Mill Tour + Tasting
We'll meet at Oleotour Cazorla to start our 2-hour journey through the world of extra virgin olive oil in the province of Jaén, one of the largest olive oil production regions in the world.
First, we'll discover why this area became a global reference for extra virgin olive oil, exploring its history from Roman times to the present day and learning how its landscape and climate shaped centuries of olive cultivation.
Next, we'll head into the olive groves to discover three varieties: Picual, known for its intense fruity flavour; Royal de Cazorla, a rare local variety; and Acebuche, the wild olive tree. We'll learn how to recognise each variety and understand how it influences the flavour and character of the final oil.
We'll then visit the oil mill and museum, where you'll see the full production process from freshly harvested olives to bottled extra virgin olive oil. Along the way, we'll discover the different stages of production, including milling, centrifugation, and quality controls, before seeing the bodega and bottling room to understand how the oil is stored and prepared.
During the tour, we'll also learn how to identify quality extra virgin olive oil, understand labels and harvest dates, and distinguish genuine quality indicators from marketing claims. You'll explore how modern extraction techniques help preserve the oil's aromas and properties, and discover why freshness, variety, and traceability matter when choosing a bottle.
To finish, we'll enjoy a guided tasting of three or four extra virgin olive oils from Cazorla. You'll learn how to recognize their aromas, flavors, and distinctive characteristics, putting our newfound knowledge into practice and discovering what makes each oil unique.
