Southern Sonora 4-Day Tour
Day 1: Ciudad Obregón
Upon landing at the Ciudad Obregón International Airport, we'll pick you up and drive to the historic center for a two-hour tour of the city. During the visit, we'll see the Plaza de Armas and stop in front of the statue of Alvaro Obregón, where we'll learn about the life of this politician who was key in the Mexican Revolution.
After the visit, we'll go to the hotel and you'll have the rest of the afternoon free to have dinner and rest for the next day.
Day 2: Ciudad Obregón - Cócorit - Navojoa
After a delicious American breakfast at the hotel, we'll set out for the colonial town of Cócorit, a beautiful municipality founded by the Jesuits in 1617. Upon arrival, we'll get lost in its narrow streets and marvel at its colorful façades.
We'll also visit the Yo'o Juara butterfly sanctuary to learn all about the Cuatro Espejos butterfly and the cultural work of this center in relation to the Yaqui Indigenous Peoples. We'll then enjoy a traditional lunch at Los Chanates restaurant.
Finally, we'll go to Navojoa, where we'll take a brief tour of the old town until we reach the Parish Church of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. After the walk, you can rest and have dinner on your own at the hotel.
Day 3: Navojoa - Álamos
At 8 am, we'll have a continental breakfast at the hotel before heading to the Pueblo Mágico (Magical Town) of Álamos. A full day of activities awaits, as we'll go on a hiking route to Cerro El Tecolote, have lunch in the center of town, visit the Museo Costumbrista del Estado de Sonora (Sonora Costumbrismo Museum) and ride the town's tourist train.
Then we'll go on a guided stroll through the old part of the city to see the Plaza de Armas, the famous Callejón del Beso (meaning 'Alley of the Kiss'), the Casa de la Moneda and the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception featuring a 32-meter high tower. After the tour, you'll have free time from 8 pm to rest at the hotel and grab dinner on your own.
Day 4: Álamos - Ciudad Obregón
We'll wake up early to enjoy breakfast and, after recharging our batteries, we'll enter the María Félix Museum. Here we'll learn all about one of the great actresses of the Golden Age of Mexican cinema, as well as see some of her personal items such as shoes, brushes, clothes and jewelry.
Next, we'll head out to the Sierra de Álamos–Río Cuchujaqui Flora & Fauna Protection Area and go on a two-hour hike where we'll encounter voluminous, century-old trees and, with some luck, hummingbirds and eagles.
Later, we'll have lunch in Navojoa and then make our way to the Ciudad Obregón International Airport. Arrival at the airport is scheduled for 3 pm.
