2-Day Sahara Desert Tour
Tour Details
Day 1: Djerba - Chahbania - Tataouine - Chenini - Ksar Ghilane
At the agreed time, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Djerba to head south towards the enchanting landscapes of Tataouine. On the way, we'll cross the historic Roman Road, an incredible work of engineering that connected the island with the African continent. You will be amazed!
After a 1.5-hour drive, our first stop will be at the salt lake of Chahbania. This surreal scenery of the white and blue colors surrounding us will be the perfect setting to take unforgettable pictures and enjoy a few moments of serenity.
Next, we'll continue our route until we reach Tataouine, where we'll take a 1-hour walk through the village and its traditional market. The colors, aromas, and Amazigh products will captivate you completely. Textiles, spices, handcrafted objects? A real feast for the senses!
Afterward, we'll head to the picturesque village of Chenini, nestled in the mountains. There, we'll stroll through its narrow stone streets, where every corner speaks a history that goes back centuries.
At noon, we'll refuel with a delicious Amazigh lunch in a traditional restaurant. We'll taste a traditional Tunisian soup, brik, which is a kind of egg pie, and a tasty couscous.
In the afternoon, we'll go into the desert through the rocky area of the Erg to reach the oasis of Ksar Ghilane. This corner of palm trees and golden sand will welcome you with the possibility of taking a bath in a natural hot spring, a refreshing contrast to the heat of the desert.
Fancy a little more adventure? If you want, you can ride through the dunes on a camel or quad bike, or even do both! And if you prefer to relax, there's nothing better than a walk in the oasis, enjoying the peaceful surroundings.
At sunset, we'll arrive at Zemla camp, where we'll stay in the middle of the desert. You can take part in learning how to bake bread traditionally in the sand, a very special nomadic custom, while watching one of the most impressive sunsets in southern Tunisia.
We'll dine under the stars, tasting typical dishes such as salad, brik, bread baked in sand, meat prepared in gargoulette and seasonal fruit. Afterwards, you'll have free time to relax under the starry sky of the Sahara, a magical night!
Day 2: Ksar Ghilane - Tamazret - Sidi Idriss - Toujane - Djerba
After a full breakfast in the desert, with sand bread, eggs, cheese, dates and juice, we'll head for the mountainous region of Matmata, famous for its troglodyte dwellings carved into the earth.
Our first stop, after about 1.5 hours, will be in Tamazret, a quiet Amazigh village where we'll have a mint tea in a setting full of history—a moment to savor the calm of southern Tunisia!
Then, we'll arrive in Matmata, welcomed by a local family living in an authentic troglodyte house. They'll show us their daily life, and we'll share a homemade lunch, consisting of salad, soup, brik, and couscous Amazigh style, Tunisian hospitality in its purest form!
With our energies restored, we'll travel to a galaxy far, far away and visit the famous Sidi Idriss troglodyte hotel. This place of worship for movie lovers was the setting for the Star Wars saga. Did you know that parts of the original set are still here?
Before returning to Djerba, we'll stop in Toujane, a beautiful village hidden in the mountains. Famous for its hand-woven carpets and handmade honey, it's the ideal place to take our final souvenir photos of the trip and buy some last-minute gifts.
We'll conclude the tour by returning to your hotel in Djerba between 3 and 4 pm. See you on your next adventure!
