We'll pick you up from your hotel in Kandy to travel 2.5 hours by minibus where we'll arrive at one of the most beautiful natural spaces in Sri Lanka: Minneriya National Park.
At the entrance, we'll get on a jeep to start the Minneriya photograph safari around the wetlands of the protected natural area. This area is of significant ecological value and contains a diverse range of species from crocodiles to monkeys and slow loris.
After a picnic stop, we'll continue the safari by admiring the famous Minneriya elephants. Did you know that these enormous mammals can reach up to five tonnes in weight? These animals tend to group up in small herds and are usually visible at different points around the national park.
The Minneriya elephants aren't the only captivating feature in the natural reserve. During the safari, we'll also try to spot the different species of Asian birds which fly over the area. The most eye-catching birds in the park include pelicans, herons and ibises which we'll witness sharing the park's lakes and waterholes with Ceylon buffalos. Although they have an intimidating appearance they're actually very peaceful animals!
To end the safari around Minneriya, we'll go back to the minibus and return to our hotels in Kandy arriving 8.5 hours later.
