On this private tour of Khiva, you'll explore this historic Uzbek city, known for its beautiful palaces and madrasah, with a guide exclusively for you and your group.
We'll meet at the designated time at your hotel in Khiva to start our private tour of the ancient capital of Chorasmia.
We'll first walk to the Itchan Kala quarter, surrounded by stone walls up to 12 meters high (nearly 40 ft). Here we'll admire the best examples of Central Asian architecture with its mosques, mausoleums and madrasas while learning about the history of this Uzbek city.
Next, we'll head to the impressive Mohammed Amin Khan Madrasa and its minaret, the largest in Khiva and Central Asia. We'll also stop in front of the 19th-century Mohammed Rahimkhan Madrasa, and learn all about who these prominent people were.
The tour will then continue through Itchan Kala to see the Kunya Arch and the 18th-century Juma Mosque, the most important mosque in Khiva. Next up? The Tash-Khovli Palace, an impressive and elegant construction decorated in blue and white majolica.
Following this visit, we'll pass by the Khan's Harem and admire its honey-colored adobe brick façade. The carved wooden latticework gives us a glimpse of the life inside. All around, the blue minarets and domes create a most poetic contrast.
Our last stop will be in front of the Ollaqulikhan Caravanserai, an ancient refuge for merchants and travelers on the Silk Road. Its two floors, open around a large courtyard, evoke the comings and goings of caravans loaded with carpets, spices, and ceramics.
Finally, we'll conclude our walking tour, which will last between 5 and 6 hours in total.
