Explore St Vincent and the Grenadines with this Owia Salt Pond tour from Kingstown. Discover the east coast of the island and bathe in the natural pools formed on volcanic rock.
Owia Salt Pond Tour
At 9 am we'll meet at the Kingstown cruise terminal, and board a bus to the northern tip of the island of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, specifically to the town of Owia.
For around two hours, accompanied by a guide, we'll travel along the entire east coast. First, we'll pass through the agricultural village of Arnos Vale. Then, we'll make a stop in Young Island, where Johnny Depp and the rest of the cast of The Pirates of the Caribbean stayed when filming.
We'll then traverse Calliaqua and see its market before continuing north to the vicinity of Byera, where the Black Point tunnel is located. Our first stop of the day will be in this curious tunnel, used by ships to unload the sugar cane they were transporting.
While we walk through Black Point, we'll discover some hidden secrets. Does it remind you of something? Perhaps if we mention Pirates of the Caribbean again, something will ring a bell! We'll also pass through Georgetown and the Rabacca Dry River, where we will make a quick stop to take some pictures, and Sandy Bay, one of the largest indigenous communities in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Afterwards, we'll return to the bus and arrive in Owia, a village also inhabited by the indigenous population of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Here we'll find Owia Salt Pond, but don't be confused by its name! These are natural pools formed on volcanic rocks and constantly covered by water falling from the waterfalls. They're also full of coral formations and reef fish.
We'll explore Owia Salt Pond for about an hour and then we'll finish the tour will by returning to the start point at 3 pm.
