During the booking process, you can choose between four different hiking trails in the rainforest surrounding La Ceiba. Each option includes hotel pickup and drop–off by minibus and an English–speaking guide. Read below to see the features of each trail:
In this option, we'll get a minibus to Pico Bonito National Park and begin our route along the Guarama trail.
First, we'll walk along the Las Flores section, which is full of orchids and bananillos. We'll then continue along the Los Árboles section, where the rainforest quickly becomes thicker. If you want to cool off, you can jump into the waterhole of La Muralla stream before we leave!
If you select this option, we'll take you by minibus to the municipality of El Pital, which is around 40 minutes away. Once we arrive, we'll begin our trekking route along the El Olvido trail. We'll cross the mighty Cangrejal River, walk through farmlands and enter the wooded areas of the Nombre de Dios National Park. We'll also visit the area's local handicraft cooperative! To cool down, you'll be able to take a refreshing dip in one of the streams we pass by along the way!
If you choose this option, we'll set out on the route until we reach the Zacate River. There, we'll follow a path of around 2.5 kilometres (1.5 miles) along the Zacate trail.
Along the way, we're likely to see toucans, swallows and razor-bills. We're also likely to encounter the friendly white-faced capuchins. Along the way, you'll also be able to take a dip in one of the crystal-clear pools.
After picking you up at your hotel, we'll head to the beginning of the 7-kilometre (4.3 mile) El Bejuco trail, which is just 20 minutes away!
At one of the highest points, you'll be able to enjoy a beautiful panoramic view of La Ceiba and Cayos Cochinos. At the end of the trail, the jewel in the crown awaits us: the El Bejuco waterfall, a seemingly endless waterfall at a height of 60 metres (nearly 200 feet) where we can also take a dip!
