Cinque Terre by Train: Itinerary

On the morning of your tour, you'll meet in La Spezia, where you'll board a train to make the short journey along the coast to Vernazza, one of the most colourful towns in this area of Italy. Along the route, which lasts about 15 minutes, you'll have wonderful views over the Ligurian Sea.

Arriving in this picturesque seaside village, the most beautiful of all of the Cinque Terre - which means "Five Earths" in Italian, referring to the five different coastal towns - you'll have free time to wander through the winding streets and admire the vibrant hues of the houses contrasting spectacularly with the sparkling turquoise sea. A truly captivating sight!

Next, you'll catch the train to Monterosso, the largest of the Cinque Terre, which stands out for its white sand beach and crystal-clear waters. In Monterosso, you'll have the opportunity to experience the region's culinary delights, indulging in a tasting of limoncino in a traditional shop. Known as limoncello in the south of Italy, this is the northern version of the bright yellow lemon liqueur: famous for its delicious taste.

After enjoying free time in Monterosso, you'll head to the last town on your excursion: Riomaggiore. This quaint village is perched on the side of a hill and looks out over the Ligurian Sea; as well as taking in the magnificent views, you'll observe the daily life of the local fishermen in the port.

Your Cinque Terre tour will come to an end returning to La Spezia by train. 

Meeting Point

When making your reservation, you'll have the choice between two meeting points from which to begin your Cinque Terre excursion:

• La Spezia cruise port (Largo Michele Fiorillo): departure time is 9:15 am.
• La Spezia train station: meet in front of the red statue at the main entrance at 9:50 am.
