La Vega Religious History Private Tour
At 10 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in La Vega and set off on our private tour. As we explore this city, we'll discover lots of fascinating facts about Christianity.
First, we'll visit Duarte Park and admire the Immaculate Conception Cathedral. We'll then head inside this magnificent basilica and explore the symbolic details inside... Keep your eyes peeled for the number 12 on stained glass windows, doors and more, as this number holds great importance in Christianity. We'll also see the clouds of heaven in the drapery and the subtle representations of sin in the structure.
When we leave the Cathedral, we'll go to the Sacred Museum. We'll stroll through its different rooms, which are filled with priceless relics and Taíno figures. Next, we'll make our way up to the Church of Our Lady of Mercedes, which is located in the Santo Cerro. Here, we'll learn all about the legend of the cross of Columbus, the indigenous population and the Virgin Mary.
Our final stop will be the site of the first settlement, called La Vega Vieja. This settlement was established by the colonists and had a town council and a variety of institutions. Unfortunately, it was destroyed by an earthquake in 1562.
We'll then take you back to the starting point, where we'll finish our tour at 1:30 pm.
