Hike through a volcanic landscape on this hiking tour to the Telica Volcano. Make your way through tropical dry forests and see glowing lava at night!
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up in an off-roading vehicle at your hotel in Leon to take you to the slopes of the Telica volcano. During the 1-hour drive, we'll drive along a dirt road surrounded by dry subtropical forests. Along the way, we'll give you some tips to make the most of the experience.
We'll drive as far as we can with our vehicle until we reach about 650 meters (2,132 ft) above sea level, where we'll begin a 40-minute hike to ascend the last 400 meters (1,312 ft) to the summit of Telica. Along the way keep your eyes peeled as some lava tongues will be clearly visible, along with the fumaroles that expel sulfurous gases.
Once at the top, we'll be treated to impressive views of the Telica crater. This active volcano, with a crater 120 meters (393 ft) deep, will allow us to peek into its bowels while there is still light. When the sun begins to set, we'll take a walk along the edge of the crater to contemplate the sunset, an unforgettable spectacle! To make it even more special, we'll have a small snack including cookies and fruit.
When night falls, we'll return to the Telica crater to observe the glowing lava, weather, wind, and vapors rising. Witnessing this natural phenomenon in total darkness is an experience you won't ever forget.
Finally, we'll descend from the volcano with the help of flashlights and start our way back to León, dropping you off at your hotel 6 hours later.
