Free Walking Tour of Lisbon
The starting point will be the Luís de Camões Square. Wandering through the centre of the city we will arrive at Chado, Lisbon's most bohemian neighbourhood. Here we will visit the São Pedro de Alcântara viewpoint, one with spectacular views of the São Jorge Castle, the Lisbon Cathedral and the old town.
As we pass through Chado, your guide will narrate its streets with the city's exciting history, travelling back to the 16th Century to relive the imperial conquests which made Portugal one of the major global powers. Thanks to its strategic position between America, Africa and Europe, Lisbon has been the birthplace of discoveries and explorers who have left their footprints on the streets of the city. And on the banks of the Tajo you can find an enormous marble map, striking in its size and complexity, and highly representative of this historical period.
Lisbon was also the scene of events which shook the whole country, such as the 1755 earthquake, or the Carnation Revolution which put an end to the reign of the 'New State' and its dictator Salazar. The tour passes through the remains left by these historic episodes and will continue all the way to the famous Rossio Square, to take a look at the famous Santa Justa Elevator and the Jewish Memorial.
The tour will end around Commerce Square.
