Free Tour of Marseille
We will meet up in the old port of Marseille, in the heart of the city. After learning about the importance of this port, we will head north to the Jardin des Vestiges (Garden of Ruins), where we will discover the importance of greek and Muslim culture and the remains of ancient monuments.
As we hear all about the history of this important French port city, we will explore the oldest neighborhood of Marseille, Le Panier. Some fascinating locations we see on our route include the Hotel Dieu, Place des Moulins, Place des Pistoles, and Place de Lenche, all of which demonstrate the charm of the ancient civilizations that inhabited Marseille.
Then we arrive at the most visited point in the city, Marseille Cathedral. You will be surprised when you see this impressive building, as the architectural design is quite distinct from the other religious shrines around the country.
We will finish our tour at the mighty Fort Saint-Jean, constructed at the order of Luis XIV, in the 17th Century.
