Lose yourself in the magic of Mayan civilisation on this day trip to the archaeological sites of Uxmal and Kabah. Discover fascinating ancient temples, palaces and statues!
Uxmal & Kabah Day Trip
After picking you up from your hotel in Mérida at 9 am on the day of our excursion, we'll set off for the Maya archaeological site of Kabah, located to the south in inland Yucatan.
Kabah is dedicated to the Mayan god of rain, Chaac, and stone sculptures of the deity decorate buildings all around the ancient site. You'll get to see the hundreds of masks representing Chaac that cover the walls of Codz Poop, earning it its other name: the Palace of the Masks. We'll also hear all about the different rites and rituals celebrated to attract rain in the Maya civilisation, as well as discovering the statues of kings that are found around the city.
Having explored Kabah, we'll head to a local restaurant for a well-earned break, enjoying a delicious lunch of regional delicacies. Then, with renewed energy, we'll resume our excursion and make our way to the largest archaeological site in the region: Uxmal.
We'll embark on a guided tour of Uxmal, taking in its most important places of interest. While we gaze up at the imposing structure of the Pyramid of the Magician, also called the Pyramid of the Dwarf or Soothsayer, our guide will reveal the legend that tells of its construction. Who was the mysterious dwarf fortune teller who gave the pyramid its name?
Our tour will continue visiting the other extraordinary stone buildings of Uxmal, including the Governor's Palace, the House of Doves and the Nunnery Quadrangle. Thanks to the excellent state of conservation of the ancient city, you'll be able to imagine what Uxmal was like in its Pre-Columbian heyday. A truly unforgettable experience!
At the end of our tour of Uxmal, we'll return to Mérida, where you'll be dropped back off at hotels at around 5 pm.
