Why Visit Zoo Miami?
The Miami Zoo is not only the largest and oldest zoo in Florida, it's also the fifth largest in the United States. A true outdoor sanctuary where young and old alike can safely get up close to some of the most fascinating species on the planet.
Did you know that it's the only subtropical zoo in the United States? During your visit to Miami Zoo, you can travel through all the ecosystems of the world in a single day, from the Florida Everglades to the African savannah.
The zoo covers nearly 300 hectares, with more than 6 km (3.7 mi) of trails, and is home to more than 2,000 animals of some 375 species. Many of them, more than 130, are currently endangered, making a visit here both an exciting and an eye-opening experience.
In addition, this enclosure protects more than 750 species of trees, palms and plants, and has more than 100 themed exhibitions dedicated to biodiversity, science and environmental conservation.
As if that weren't enough, Miami Zoo is a global leader in conservation. Every year, it participates in international wildlife protection programmes on five continents and is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), guaranteeing the highest standards of animal welfare.
