We were lucky and there were only two of us on the tour. Rocío was our guide, the visit was very pleasant and entertaining.

Explore the historical centre of the charming village and its curious surprises, such as its famous donkey taxis, with this Mijas Guided Tour. Let yourself be captivated by the beauty of this corner of Malaga.

Mijas Guided Tour

Our Mijas guided tour will begin in the centrally located Plaza de la Virgen de la Peña. Here we'll go up to a modern panoramic public elevator that will allow us to admire the Avenida del Compás and its traditional donkey taxis. The origin of this curious means of transport is sure to surprise you! We'll also see the Ermita de la Virgen de la Peña, which was excavated in the rock by Mercedarian monks in the middle of the 16th century.

The tour will continue past the Plaza de la Constitución to the remains of the ancient Arab wall. As we carry on through the picturesque streets full of whitewashed buildings we'll reach the main religious monument in Mijas, the Immaculada Concepción church, built on the remains of a mosque from the Andalusian period.

Before descending to the lower part of Mijas, we'll take a walk through La Muralla Park, whose viewpoints will offer us extraordinary panoramic views of the Mediterranean coast of the Costa del Sol. On the way back to the town centre we may be able to attend one of the many public open-air flamenco shows that usually take place next to the shopping streets.

From the shopping area, we'll go to the Plaza de la Libertad and Málaga street, to visit two more symbolic locations in Mijas, the San Sebastian chapel and the CAC Contemporary Art Centre (we recommend visiting it at the end of our tour).

The tour will end returning to the Plaza de la Virgen de la Peña.
