On this day trip to Sergiyev Posad, we'll visit the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius monastery, a jewel of Orthodox religious art located 70 km (43 mi) from Moscow.
Day Trip Details
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the entrance to the Cosmos Hotel in Moscow, specifically next to the Charles de Gaulle Monument. From there, we'll head by minibus to the town of Sergiyev Posad, where we'll arrive after approximately 1 hour.
After enjoying a first panoramic view of this Orthodox spiritual centre, one of the most prominent in Russia, we'll visit the village's craft market. Here, you'll have the opportunity to purchase typical products such as matryoshka dolls, the famous Russian nesting dolls.
We'll continue our tour of Sergiyev Posad, considered the Russian Vatican, visiting its most important monument: the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius monastery. This religious complex, made up of different buildings, has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The blue domes of the Cathedral of the Assumption are sure to catch your attention. We'll also admire the Orthodox art housed in the Krasnogorskaya Chapel and the Church of St. Sergius, which is particularly beautiful due to its careful ornamentation.
We'll also see other highlights of the monumental complex, such as the Bell Tower of Sergiyev Posad. Its pastel green tones rise to a height of 88 m (288 ft).
Lastly, we'll begin our journey back to Moscow and, during the trip, you'll be able to enjoy the landscapes of the Golden Ring, as this area of the country is known.
Finally, we'll arrive at the starting point and conclude this 5-hour trip.
