Nuremberg Day Trip

  • 10 hours

Spend a full day exploring Bavaria's second largest city. Learn all about Nuremberg's long and complex history and fall in love with picturesque views of traditional German wooden houses on the banks of the Pegnitz River.

Nuremberg Day Trip

After meeting in Munich, you'll set off on your bus journey of around an hour to Nuremberg. Here you'll start your walking tour of the city's historic centre, where you'll see the many reminders of the Nazi era, and be able to imagine the glamour it exuded during the German Empire.

You'll wander through the charming Altstadt, or Old Town, which is divided in two by the Pegnitz River. Amongst its historical architecture, much of which dates back to Medieval times, you'll see iconic churches including the Gothic-style St. Lorenz Church, constructed over a period of 200 years and home to one of Europe's biggest organs.

Cross Museum Bridge and stand between Nuremberg's two halves for the best views of the city and its famous wooden houses.

Your walking tour will continue through Hauptmarkt, the main market square. The square hosts the city's magical Christmas markets, but it's still equally enjoyable throughout the rest of the year: its many food stalls serve delicious local cuisine all year round and change according to the season. Here, you'll also find Frauenkirche, the Church of our Lady, and its curious clock - catch it at midday to watch it come alive!

Your guide will reveal the details of the 20th century's most famous judicial proceedings, known as the Nuremberg Trials, most notable for their prosecution of those responsible for the Nazi crimes of World War II. And to learn more about this process you can also look around the exposition dedicated to this process - a surprising and enlightening experience.

Having finished your tour, you'll head back to Munich, where you'll arrive back around 7 pm.
