Nice True Crime Tour
Tour Details
Welcome to the Côte d'Azur! Its glamorous capital hides a mysterious hidden side. To discover it, we'll meet at L'Ange de la Baie, an iconic sculpture of Jean-Marie Fondacaro located in the famous Promenade des Anglais.
We'll start this mystery and legends tour of Nice by admiring the Palais de la Méditerranée from the outside.
As we admire this palace, we'll learn about the tragic history of the heiress of a casino that disappeared without a trace in 1977. This enigma unfolded an investigation that lasted 37 years, the longest and most intriguing mystery in France. This was a story of tragic love and cold-blooded betrayal, in which money, the mafia, and a ruthless lawyer become entangled in a deeply unsettling series of events.
Our tour will continue along the Promenade des Anglais toward the Plage du Centenaire. In this beach, we'll talk about the queen of thieves of the Belle Époque: the daughter of a butcher who pretended to be a countess and stole from the rich for 20 years. She was captured in Nice in 1908, dressed in a black silk suit and caught red-handed.
Speaking of big thieves, we'll make our next stop at the Avenue Jean Médecin to dive into the story of the heist of the century. It happened in a bank on this avenue in July 1976, when a gang dug a tunnel from the sewers to the branch's vault. After we walk along this avenue, we'll talk about Odette and Moussa, a couple who saved hundreds of Jews during the Nazi occupation in France.
Then, we'll head to the Place du Palais de Justice. Here, we'll reveal how the masterminds behind the heist of the century also staged the escape of the century. Our next stop will be at... Well, it's probably best not to reveal the location, since we'll go to a secret bar.
After discovering why this venue was created, we'll go to the Rue Droite to discover the story of a humble washerwoman who became the bravest woman in Nice. She's one of the key figures of the city!
Finally, we'll conclude this 2.5-hour tour of Nice at the Place Garibaldi, where we'll talk about this woman and her political influence in the 19th century.
