Book this ticket to the archaeological site of Palenque and travel back in time to discover the incredible culture and lifestyle of the Maya people.
Description
Your ticket to the archaeological site of Palenque will allow you to explore the grounds and structures of the ancient Maya city of Lakam Ha', a city whose origins date back to the 3rd century BC.
After several wars, Lakam Ha' was abandoned and quickly forgotten, as the jungle swallowed the city's temples. It was not until several centuries later that this site was rediscovered in the heart of the jungle. Today, it represents a perfect example of Maya urban planning and architecture.
Inside the archaeological site of Palenque, you'll come across numerous fascinating monuments, among which the Temple of the Inscriptions - a stepped pyramid which is the tallest construction in the site, almost 25 metres (82 feet) high. You'll discover that the Maya king K'inich Janaab' Pakal was buried here.
During your visit to the archaeological zone of Palenque, you'll also come across other temples, such as the Temple of the Cross, the Temple of the Sun, the Temple of the Skull, or the Tomb of the Red Queen. Additionally, at the Great Palace, you can admire well-preserved reliefs and explore the tower from which the priests observed the sunset. All of this in a beautiful lush natural jungle setting.
