Head into the Verde Valley and discover its mining tradition in the historic frontier towns of Jerome and Clarkdale. You will also experience a special trip on the hundred-year-old Verde Canyon Train. Spend the day in the old wild west!
Jerome and Clarkdale Tour and Verde Canyon Train
We will collect you from your hotel in Pheonix to start our route through the region of Verde Valley, where you will have a panoramic view of Mingus mountain and the Mogollon Rim.
Our first stop is Jerome, one of the cities with the biggest mining traditions in the country, which has been producing minerals since 1800. We will explore its historic streets and discover all the secrets and stories they hold. You will find out just why this city was known as the 'Wickedest City in the West'.
We continue our exploration of Arizona's mining legacy at Clarkdale, which was known for its production of copper. Walking past the rows of vintage store signs, you will be transported back to the old west. In the Arizona Copper Art Museum, you will discover more than 5000 copper works of art and architecture, some of which date all the way back to 3500 B.C.
Our trip to Valley Verde then continues on wheels, as we climb aboard the iconic Verde Canyon train. From our comfortable seats, we will admire some unique views of Verde Valley as we enjoy a tasty snack and hear all about the history of this railroad that began operating over a hundred years ago. The train weaves its way through the canyon so tightly that you can almost reach out and touch the red rocks. At 2000 feet above sea level, as you enjoy a tasty lunch, we will pass beautiful Sedona and the waters of the Verde River.
Following this experience, we will return to Phoenix, and accompany you back to your accommodation before finishing the trip.
