Tour Details
We will collect you from your hotel in Saly and then head 264 ft (50 mi) along the northern coast of Senegal. After traveling for around 1.5 hours, we'll arrive at Lac Rose, known as the Pink Lake due to the amazing color of its water.
On our journey, you'll learn all about how the pinkish tone of the water comes from its high concentration of salt and microscopic algae. The salt content here is ten times higher than that of the ocean, which is why you will see many people in the water, using traditional techniques to extract the mineral.
Upon arriving, we'll switch to an off-roading vehicle, which will take us around the lake's surroundings. You'll see beautiful sand dunes nestled between the lake and the ocean. You'll also discover the area that was used as the last stage of the Paris-Dakar Rally up until 2008.
After the off-roading tour, you'll then have the opportunity to take a dip in the saltwater lake and experience the amazing sensation of floating on the surface, completely unaided. The best way to end the day!
Finally, we'll return to the initial starting point and climb back into the bus, which will take you back to your hotel in Saly.
Lac Rose
Please note that during Senegal's rainy season, the lack of sunlight causes the lake's color to fade. This typically occurs between August and October. Swimming in Lac Rose is only permitted if the weather is nice. If you have enough time, you'll have about 15 minutes to enjoy the lake's salty waters. Don't forget your bathing suit!
