This tour will take you along the Georgian Military Road to Ananuri Castle, the Jinvali Water Reservoir and Kazbegi, a village in the middle of the Caucasus Mountains.
Kazbegi & Ananuri Castle Day Trip
Having met up at the Avlabari metro station at 8:30 am, we'll set off at 9 am and head north along the Georgian Military Road, an impressive route that crosses the Caucasus mountain range.
After around an hour and a half's drive, we'll arrive at the first stop on our tour: the Jinvali Water Reservoir, whose mesmerisingly turquoise blue waters contrast perfectly with the green mountainous landscape. It'll take your breath away! Leaving this dreamy scene behind us, we'll continue on our road trip to Kazbegi, admiring the unique confluence of the black and white Aragvi Rivers.
Arriving in Kazbegi, we'll soon discover that it is one of the most visited villages in Georgia, thanks to its privileged location in the middle of the beautiful Caucasus mountain range. Here, you can choose to take a trip by 4x4 up to the iconic Gergeti Trinity Church, which stands on a hill overlooking Mount Kazbeg at over 5,000 metres high.
At 2 pm, you'll have an hour of free time to have lunch in a local restaurant - we recommend trying Khinkali, or Georgian dumplings - delicious!
After the break, we'll continue our tour visiting the Russia - Georgia Friendship Monument. This large stone and concrete structure overlooking the Devil's Valley in the Caucasus mountains was built to celebrate the bicentenary of the Treaty of Georgievsk in 1983. Inside, a tile mural depicts scenes of Russian and Georgian history.
The last stop of our tour will be at Ananuri, an impressive fortress built on the Aragvi River that hosted numerous battles during the Middle Ages.
At the end of the trip, we'll take you back to the original departure point in Tbilisi, arriving at between 8 pm and 9 pm.
From December to March, the visit to the Russia - Georgia Friendship Monument will be replaced by the Gudauri ski resort.
If the weather conditions during the winter do not allow access to the Gergeti Trinity Church, you'll spend more time at the Gudauri ski resort.
