Day Trip Details
At the designated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Tirana and, from here, begin our day trip to Shkodër and Krujë, two of the most historic cities in Albania. Ready? Let's go!
First, we'll set off to Shkodër, the most important city in northern Albania, which is nestled in a beautiful plateau in front of the largest lake in the Balkans and has the Albanian Alps in the background.
Once we arrive, we'll go on a walking tour of Gjuhadol, a pedestrian area full of Italian and Austrian architectural influences, a testament to the city's historic ties to these two countries.
Afterward, we'll enjoy a guided tour of Rozafa Castle or Shkodër Castle, one of Shkodër's most precious treasures. As you explore its halls, we'll tell you about its history, from the Illyrian occupation until it was invaded by the Romans. Since it's located on top of a hill, you'll also get to enjoy some beautiful scenic views.
After ending the tour of the castle, you'll have around 2 hours of free time to continue exploring the city. We recommend visiting the Marubi Museum, which houses an exhibition of old prints, or trying some of the region's delicacies, like pickled food or cheeses.
Then, we'll regroup to head to Krujë, where we'll discover the Fortress of Krujë, a center of Albanian resistance against the Ottoman in Skanderbeg's rebellion. We'll travel to the past to learn about this important historic moment as we explore its rooms.
We'll then continue our tour by visiting the Skanderbeg Museum, dedicated to Albania's national hero, Gjergj Kastrioti Skënderbeu. Architecturally, this museum is inspired by the traditional Albanian stone towers and medieval Romanesque architecture. Here, you'll learn about Skënderbeu's life and his military milestones.
Lastly, we'll pass by the famous Old Bazaar Krujë, where you'll have 30 minutes to buy a traditional artisanal souvenir. Afterward, we'll start our journey back to Tirana.
Finally, we'll say goodbye at the starting point, ending this 9-hour day trip.
