Zagreb City Tour + World War II Tunnels
Zagreb City Tour
At the indicated time, our guided tour in a small group of Zagreb will begin in Ban Jelačić Square, in the heart of Croatia's capital. We'll find out what role this beautiful public space played at the end of the 20th century during the conflicts that led to the disintegration of the former Yugoslavia.
We’ll continue the tour by heading to Dolac Market: a bustling food market where we’ll get a glimpse into the daily life of the local people. Across from the market stands Zagreb Cathedral, the tallest building in Croatia. One of its twin towers has a curious feature that we’ll reveal as we admire its exterior architecture.
Afterward, we’ll head into bustling Tkalčićeva Street, the perfect spot to hear the stories behind Zagreb’s Bloody Bridge. We’ll continue our walk toward one of the oldest sites in the city, the Stone Gate, which marks the entrance to Zagreb’s Old Town. Nearby, we'll find the city's oldest pharmacy, the Black Eagle.
Then it's on to Gornji Grad. Here, you'll see the shields that decorate the outside of St. Mark's Church, one of the most famous religious sites in the area. And just around the corner, you'll find the Lotrščak Tower, where the famous symbol of the city - the Grič cannon - is fired at noon.
Finally, we’ll visit the tunnels built during World War II and uncover the meaning behind the mysterious graffiti that covers the walls. Before wrapping up the tour, we’ll take the Zagreb funicular, one of the shortest in the world.
At the end of the tour, we'll head back to Ban Jelačić Square, where we'll arrive after a total of 2 hours.
