How to Visit the Avatar Mountains in China?
If you want to see one of the most impressive landscapes in China, booking this ticket to Zhangjiajie National Park is the perfect option. Known for its unique rock formations, this is the place that inspired James Cameron to create the world of Pandora in the hit film Avatar.
The park is popularly known as the “3,000 fantastic peaks and 800 beautiful waters” and covers an area of 130 km² (50 mi²). To visit it, you’ll have 4 consecutive days, and your ticket includes access to all shuttle bus routes, the best way to reach the different areas of interest within the park.
The shuttle bus routes run through both the lower and upper areas of the park. However, please note that the bus does not connect these two parts, so you’ll need to take the cable car or the elevator. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can also hike up to the mountains.
If you stay in the lower area, you can follow one of the park’s hiking trails and admire the Avatar Mountains from an unforgettable perspective. If you go up to the upper area, you’ll find numerous viewpoints to admire the peaks and explore the park’s most famous areas:
- Yuanjiajie: home to the Avatar Hallelujah Mountain
- Yangjiajie: famous for its massive natural stone walls
- Tianzi Mountain: offers some of the best panoramic views of the peaks
- Huangshizhai: a viewpoint with unforgettable 360° views of these sandstone pillars
- Golden Whip Stream: one of the most famous trails, following a 7.5 km (4.7 mi) crystal-clear stream through a canyon surrounded by towering quartzite pillars, dense vegetation, and local wildlife
- Ten-Mile Gallery: a 5 km (3.1 mi) hiking route filled with uniquely shaped peaks, lush vegetation, and a tourist train that runs through the valley
