“Granada, the land I dream of, so goes an old verse of a song from the early 20th century that would become the official anthem of this historic city. A lyric that already hints at the charm and captivating air of this place that is certainly worth a visit. If you’re looking to plan a few days of fun in this beautiful corner of Andalusia, you’re in the right place! At Civitatis, we make your planning easy with this guide of what to see in Granada in 3 days. Time to pack your bags!

Day 1: history, gastronomy & flamenco

Free tour of Granada

The first day of a trip is always the most exhausting. Getting up early, lugging suitcases around, long car, train or bus rides, the list goes on… That’s why we think the first day is best spent on low-key activities that allow you to get to know the city without having to rush, like a free tour of Granada.

With a free tour, you can begin to discover the history of this exciting city going back to the times of Al-Andalus, passing through the Reconquista of the Catholic Monarchs and the different more and less glorious stages of the years that followed. You can see the exteriors of the Granada Cathedral and the Royal Chapel, the Alcaicería street market and much more.

Granada tapas tour & flamenco show

After getting to know the monumental heritage of the city, it’s time to enjoy its rich gastronomy. Why not go on a tapas tour of Granada? The streets of this provincial capital are full of restaurants offering authentic delicacies. Habitas con jamón (broad beans with ham), eggplant with cane honey, soplillos de la Aplujarra (typical dessert)… You won’t know where to start!

Before ending the day, we suggest relaxing and enjoying the inexplicable charm of Andalusia with a flamenco show at La Alboreá, Jardines de Zoraya or Cuevas Los Tarantos. The shows last about an hour and the prices are generally between 20 and 30 euros. After an intense, but relaxing day, perhaps it is time to get some shut-eye.

Day 2: Alhambra, Albaicín & Arab baths

Guided visit of the Alhambra

Anyone what to see in Granada, and the answer will always be the same: the Alhambra. We suggest the second day of your trip for this highlight that will take you several hours due to its colossal size. Get ready to be captivated from start to finish!

If you book a guided tour of the Alhambra and the Nasrid Palaces, you’ll be accompanied by a guide who will reveal all the secrets of this great World Heritage Site and, not surprisingly, one of the most visited monuments in Spain. Did you know that its name means ‘red fortress’? On the tour, you’ll discover this and many other curiosities.

If you prefer, you can also book a ticket to the Alhambra and visit it on your own or opt for a combined tour that includes the Alhambra and the tour of the Albaicín, the oldest district in the city.

Hammam Al Ándalus

Once you’ve seen the crown jewel of Granada, another great plan in Granada is to relax body and mind in the Arab baths of Hammam Al Ándalus. Arabesque architecture, scented rooms, Andalusian music and soft light combine perfectly in this spa, leaving you feeling like new to take on a new day in the city.

If you’ve got some extra time left on your second day, we recommend taking a night stroll and going to the famous viewpoint of San Nicolás, which offers one of the best views of Granada’s star monument.

Day 3: Federico García Lorca, excursions & hiking

For the last day of your trip, we bring you different options, depending on how long you have in the city before the end of your trip.

Excursions from Granada

If you have at least seven hours in the city, don’t hesitate to take an excursion to the Alpujarras. You can visit the picturesque white villages in the outskirts of Granada like Capileira, Bubión, Pampaneira and Lanjarón, and enjoy incredible views of the surrounding mountains – the perfect finishing touch to your trip!

If you don’t have that much time, but still want to connect with the nature of the area, you can go on a hiking route through the Barranco de la Luna ravine or the Cahorros de Monachil. A great option to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy a few hours of peace and quiet before returning home.

Free Federico García Lorca tour or free graffiti tour of Granada

In case you prefer to stay in the center of Granada, there are plenty of alternative guided tours for those who want to delve into other interesting aspects of the city.

Urban art lovers will have a great time on the free graffiti tour of Granada. On the other hand, if you’ve fallen in love with Andalusian art, the tour of the cármenes will allow you to discover hidden palaces that are sure to surprise you with their aesthetic architecture and beautiful gardens. Lastly, if you’re passionate about literature, we recommend the free tour of Federico García Lorca. You’ll discover the most interesting facts about the life of this famous writer, from his youth to his final arrest and assassination during the Spanish Civil War.

And so ends your trip to this beautiful city, after three days full of history, flamenco, art, gastronomy and exciting monuments. Of course, a few days doesn’t begin to cover all there is to see in Granada, but this is the perfect place to start. Plus, you’ve got to save some places for your next visit!
