Discover the iconic Great Wall of China at Simatai, one of its best-preserved sections, and the incredible Gubei Water Town on this day trip from Beijing.

Simatai Great Wall & Gubei Water Town Day Trip Itinerary

Having met your guide at 8:30 am at the Guomao metro station in Beijing, you'll climb aboard a bus and head northeast of the city. After a two hour drive through the verdant countryside, you'll reach Gubeikou, a village that was once a heavily-guarded gatepost of the Great Wall of China.

You'll have free time in Gubei Water Town, as it is alternatively known, to explore the sights at your own pace. The village, which has over one thousand years of legendary history, is one of the best places from which to see the Simatai section of the Great Wall.

Make the most of your time in Gubei Water Town and take in the best views of the typical architecture of this picturesque region by enjoying a boat trip on the canals from which it has earned its nickname (not included). You'll be truly captivated! What's more, at lunchtime you'll be treated to a delicious buffet at a local restaurant.

Next, you'll head to the Great Wall of China itself, and more specifically to the Simatai section. Did you know that this is one of the best-preserved areas of the monument, despite having been built in the 6th century? You'll have two hours here to discover the historic fortified wall, which is considered one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World, and watch as the sun sets spectacularly over it.

After making the most of your time at the Great Wall, you'll return to the bus for the journey back to Beijing. Your day trip will come to an end back at the original meeting point at 8 pm.
