Novi Sad, Fruska Gora & Sremski Karlovci
Nature, culture and history: discover the wonders of northern Serbia on this day trip to Fruška Gora and the towns of Sremski Karlovci and Novi Sad from Belgrade.
Novi Sad, Fruška Gora & Sremski Karlovci
First thing in the morning, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Belgrade and set off to the Vojvodina region of northern Serbia.
Our first stop will be in Fruška Gora, a national park home to beautiful mountains and often referred to as the jewel of Serbia. We'll visit one of the area's famous medieval Orthodox monasteries, the Krušedol Monastery, a legacy of the Branković family.
We'll then make our way to Sremski Karlovci, a town that has been the cultural and spiritual epicentre of Serbia for more than two centuries despite its small size. We'll explore its historic centre, admiring its Baroque architecture and emblematic monuments such as the Orthodox Cathedral of St. Nicholas and the Patriarchate Court.
Sremski Karlovci is also well known for its winemaking tradition, so we'll take the opportunity to visit some 18th century wineries and enjoy a tasting of local wines.
After our wine tasting, we'll head to Novi Sad, the second largest city in Serbia. Located on the Danube, Novi Sad is a treasure trove of different cultures, having been under the rule of diverse empires throughout its history.
We'll visit one of the city's main attractions, the Petrovaradin Fortress, a dazzling example of 18th century European military architecture. On seeing this historic fortification built above the river, you'll soon understand why it has been nicknamed "the Gibraltar of the Danube". We'll also get to explore the labyrinth of underground passages that lie underneath Petrovaradin - truly fascinating!
Next, we'll delve into the historic centre of Novi Sad to learn all about its cultural diversity. Did you know the city has been chosen as European Capital of Culture for 2021.
At the end of the day, we'll return to Belgrade, where you'll be dropped off around 5 pm.
