La Candelaria Walking Tour

  • English and Spanish
  • 2h 30m - 3h

Discover the ins and outs of the most historical and most beautiful neighbourhood in Bogota with this walking tour of La Candelaria.

La Candelaria Walking Tour

Our tour of the La Candelaria neighbourhood will start at Calle 16, and from here we'll head to Plazoleta del Chorro Quevedo. According to historical sources, it was in this square where the city was founded in 1538. We'll then continue discovering the neighbourhood's most emblematic places whilst also admiring the typical colonial architecture of its buildings.

Our next stop will be at the Palacio de San Carlos, the old official residence of the President of Colombia. Just in front of this 16th-century building, we'll also admire the neoclassical façade of the Teatro Colón (Christopher Columbus Theatre), opened on 12th October 1892 on the occasion of the fourth centenary of the discovery of America.

A few metres from the theatre is the Plaza de Bolívar square, one of the most popular meeting points in Bogota. We'll walk around the square, admiring the architecture of its main monuments, including the cathedral, the Capitolio Nacional parliament building and the Palacio de Liévano, which houses the city council.

From here, we'll head to the Gold Museum. If you wish, when you book your tour you can choose the option to also visit this emblematic museum.

Guided Tour of the Gold Museum

You can complete your tour of La Candelaria by visiting the Gold Museum (Museo del Oro). This precious metal is the main raw material of many of the prehispanic items that make up the collection. As we look at the objects on display, you'll discover the most important details about the daily lives of the pre-Colombian communities that lived in this area of Latin America. After we've visited the museum, we'll return to our initial meeting point.
