With your ticket, you can discover all the intricacies of this Gothic structure—which stands separate from the basilica itself—and climb the 230 steps of its spiral staircase to enjoy the finest views of Bordeaux.
Although admission to the Basilica of St. Michael is completely free, visiting the spire is essential for a full appreciation of this remarkable monument. The spire of St. Michael has served as a visual landmark in Bordeaux since the Middle Ages.
Furthermore, its architectural style stands as one of the purest examples of Flamboyant Gothic in the Gironde region. Did you know that it is a UNESCO World Heritage site, recognized as part of the Camino de Santiago?
Your ticket to the tower of the Basilica of St. Michael grants you access to the following areas:
- The panoramic terrace: naturally, this is the monument's main attraction. Located 154 ft (47 m) up, you'll be able to admire the iconic rooftops of Bordeaux’s city center, the Garonne River, the piers, and the famous Pont de Pierre. The climb is well worth the effort!
- Detached bell tower: the tower was designed to stand apart from the church to prevent the strong vibrations of its bells from damaging the main sanctuary.
- The historic crypt: at the base of the spire, you'll find a 19th-century underground crypt. This is where the famous "mummies of Saint Michael" were once displayed!
If you're in Bordeaux and would like to explore the detached bell tower of the Basilica of St Michael, book your ticket now! It promises to be a tour filled with mystery, history, and incredible views of the city.
