Buda Castle Free Walking Tour

  • 294 reviews | 3,777 travellers
On a adoré.

Buda Castle Free Tour: What to Expect

At the indicated time, we'll meet at Széll Kálmán Square in the heart of Budapest. From there, we'll set off on foot to Buda Castle, a majestic fortress declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site located on Castle Hill.

We'll enter the castle grounds through Vienna Gate—the oldest of the entrances to this historic fortress. From there, we'll pass in front of the National Archives and the Church of Mary Magdalene, two of the most striking buildings in the Buda Castle Quarter. Our tour will then take us by Archbishop's Palace before we make our way down Uri Street, whose medieval architecture is sure to enchant you.

We'll then reach Holy Trinity Square, to find the Matthias Church, where the last Habsburg king was crowned. Afterwards, we'll make our way to the Fisherman's Bastion to enjoy a unique view of Budapest Parliament, the Danube River and the bridges that cross it.

This is a great spot to take a few pictures, being perhaps the most iconic part of the Castle Quarter. Our final stop will be in St George's Square at the Matthias Fountain, where we'll hear all about the legend of the figures it depicts. The tour will come to an end here after 2.5 hours of activity.
