Workshop Details
Our traditional pottery workshop will take place at the Andrea Rabasa Creative & Educational Center in Cabarete, a popular tourist site on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, located very close to Sosúa.
First, we'll give a brief introduction to the natural clay produced in the Dominican mountains. We'll also talk about the techniques and tools necessary for the modeling of the figures. Don't worry if this is your first time, as one of the main objectives of this activity is to learn in a fun way!
Once we're ready, you'll be able to create your own ceramic piece. You'll practice molding it following the characteristics of the Taino art. What's more, you can make bowls, plates, sculptures, incense holders, trays, or whatever your creativity inspires you to craft.
Throughout the workshop, we'll follow the ancient Dominican modeling techniques. In this way, we'll create our own pieces with traditional methods that have been passed down from generation to generation for centuries. Plus, during the practical class, you will be able to have a drink, choosing between mineral water, tea, or coffee.
The workshop will last approximately 2 hours. At the end of the experience, we'll tell you about the drying and baking process of the pieces, which can take between 1 and 2 weeks. If you don't have that much time, you can paint a baked piece to take home as a souvenir!
