Tour Details
Are you ready to discover the best of Wales on this day tour? Welsh castles, an unforgettable steam train ride through the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, and the historic town of Brecon are waiting for you. Let’s go!
At the appointed time, we’ll meet at the main entrance of the Anglican church Eglwys Dewi Sant, in downtown Cardiff. Once everyone is ready, we’ll head to our first destination: Cardiff Castle. We’ll admire this iconic fortress, located right in the heart of the Welsh capital, which boasts over 2,000 years of history within its walls. It’s one of Wales’s top attractions!
After exploring the Roman Fort or the Clock Tower at Cardiff Castle, we’ll head to Caerphilly Castle. Did you know it’s the largest fortress in Wales and the second-largest castle in the United Kingdom? We’ll visit this imposing 13th-century medieval stronghold, surrounded by incredible moats and towers that hold some of the greatest stories from Wales’ past.
After visiting Caerphilly Castle, we’ll head to the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, a protected area in southern Wales where mountains, glacial valleys, and waterfalls take center stage. To explore it in a unique way, we’ll board the Brecon Mountain Railway steam train, which will take us along the Brecon and Merthyr line. This 1-hour train ride will offer us the best possible views of the Welsh forests, valleys, and mountains.
Once this unforgettable train ride is over, we’ll continue our tour of the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park, heading toward Talybont Reservoir, whose tranquil waters set against the backdrop of the valleys are one of the most photographed scenes in Wales. You’ll love this natural setting!
To round out this tour, we’ll head to Brecon, a historic market town on the banks of the River Usk. Here, we’ll give you 1.5 hours of free time to explore the town’s main attractions, such as its canal or Brecon Cathedral. You’ll also have the chance to satisfy your appetite at one of its traditional restaurants.
With our batteries recharged, we’ll meet up again and head to Cardiff. Before wrapping up, we’ll make a photo stop at the national park’s visitor center, where we’ll once again enjoy the scenery, wildlife, and history of Bannau Brycheiniog.
8 hours later, we'll return to the starting point and wrap up this comprehensive tour of South Wales.
