On this day trip to Totumo Volcano and Cartagena's mangroves, you'll enjoy a well-rounded experience that combines immersion in nature, community-based tourism with local residents, and a visit to a striking geological site.
Tour Details
We'll pick you up at the designated time from your hotel in Cartagena de Indias and head to the La Boquilla area, where we'll kick off a cultural, environmental, and community-based tourism experience.
Alongside members of the local community and a guide, we'll board a traditional canoe to paddle through the Ciénaga de la Virgen and into the natural tunnels formed by the mangroves.
Along the way, we'll watch a traditional net fishing demonstration, visit Isla del Pescador to try refreshing coconut water, and soak up local traditions with a folk cumbia performance. We'll also take part in a mangrove planting activity to help support the conservation of this ecosystem.
After enjoying a delicious regional lunch featuring local specialties, we'll continue by road to the town home to Totumo Volcano. There, you'll have the chance to climb into the crater and take a relaxing soak, up to 15 minutes, in its thick, warm mud, known for its therapeutic and mineral properties thanks to its silica, magnesium, sulfur, and calcium content.
After your mud bath, we'll head to the area around Ciénaga del Totumo before making the drive back to Cartagena. We expect to arrive back at your starting point about 8 hours after pickup.
Hotel Pickup
This activity only includes pickup from hotels in the Bocagrande and El Laguito areas. If you're staying outside these areas, you'll need to make your own way to the meeting point at Muelle de Los Pegasos, in front of the Centro Histórico.
