Explore a breathtaking landscape and its two mystical volcanoes, Iztaccíhuatl and Popocatépetl, with this hiking route through the Izta-Popo Zoquiapan National Park.
Trekking in the Izta-Popo National Park
We'll pick you up at your hotel in Cholula at the scheduled time and head to Izta-Popo Zoquiapan National Park.
Our adventure will begin at Paso de Cortés, a historic mountain pass located between the Iztaccíhuatl and Popocatépetl volcanoes. From here, we'll start a high-altitude hike surrounded by pine forests, volcanic landscapes, and panoramic views that constantly change along the way.
The route will take us from an altitude of 11482 ft (3500 m) to La Joya, located at approximately 12795 ft (3900 m) above sea level. We’ll cover about 8.69 mi (14 km) in total, with an elevation gain of 400 meters, making this an excellent option for people with basic to intermediate fitness levels who want to experience the mountains in a safe and accessible way.
As we proceed, we'll enjoy spectacular views of Popocatépetl, one of Mexico’s most famous active volcanoes.
After 4 hours of hiking, we'll conclude the trek at the starting point. From there, we'll return to your hotel in Cholula, where we're scheduled to arrive 7 hours after pickup.
